Police Chief – Town of Fairmont, Population 2651. Performs administrative and supervisory responsibilities in planning, directing and participating in the law enforcement program of the Town of Fairmont. Reports directly to the Town Manager. Bachelor or Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or law enforcement field preferred; equivalent advanced training and experience accepted. Must demonstrate 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, to include 3 to 5 years at an upper management level. Duties involve preparing and managing an annual budget, establishing dept. policies, procedures and priorities, overseeing recruitment and selection, career development and training of personnel. Must possess strong law enforcement technical skills and grant writing experience; as well as supervisory and management skills. Must demonstrate the ability to make mature judgments and respond sensitively to the public and community organizations. Writing and communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate must understand the importance of diversity within the department and police sponsored events and programs. Must possess high school diploma or equiv., an active BLET Certification and NC driver’s license. Must be prepared to work shifts, if needed. Salary is negotiable and will depend on education and qualifications. The Town offers a competitive benefits package.
