Mr. Frank Evans, U.S. Army Special Forces, Retired, gave a remembrance speech during
Fairmont's Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26. There were around 75 people in attendance. The event featured a flag ceremony conducted by members of the Army reserve, taps performed by Medina Deemeter of Orrum Middle School, the National Anthem sung by Fairmont Farmers Festival Miss Allison Mitchell and a poem read by Cmdr. Jarrett Stephens of the Fairmont High School JROTC.

The Fairmont Department of Public Safety displayed its new Click It Or Ticket trailer
at the board meeting on March 18. The trailer will be used during license checkpoints and was purchased through a 100% grant from the NC Governor's Highway Safety Program. Rogers Screenprinting of Fairmont decaled the trailer using pictures of Fairmont's officers and vehicles.

Congratulations to Jarrett Stephens of Fairmont High, Charles Smith of Fairmont Middle and Brianna McKnight of Rosenwald Elementary School. They were recognized and presented certificates by Mayor Charles Kemp at the January Town Board Meeting for being the students at their schools who had done the most to promote racial harmony and togetherness.

the town invested in a new one!

Fairmont's brand new fire truck, Engine 3, a 2007 Kenworth T300 built by
Pierce Manufacturing, Contender series. This truck was purchased with
a Homeland Security Grant and is the first of its type in North Carolina.

Town Manager Blake Proctor hands a check for $300,000 to Saundra and Danny Nobles,
owners of DayStar Embroidery & Screenprint. Fairmont was awarded the grant from
USDA Rural Development to establish a revolving loan fund to assist
small businesses. DayStar will use the funds to expand their commercial cleaning business and create 20-25 jobs.
